MAC WORKSHOPS Build It Cinema Rio – In Brazil, a Blue Macaw was sleeping in his nest when he wakes up he was seeing the birds singing real in rio while they’re celebrating Carnival. But when the blue macaw was about to fly, several exotic birds are smuggled out of the country. In Moose Lake, Minnesota, a crate with the male Spix’s Macaw hatchling falls out of a truck and is found by a young girl, named Linda Gunderson, who names him “Blu”. Over the course of 15 years, Linda takes care of Blu and grows up treating him as her true best friend and companion. Each child gets to build a figure to take home – book now limited tickets available. No trailers or adverts. Film starts at advertised times so please arrive with plenty of time. Join us on Wednesday nights for relaxed five-a-side football. It's a great space to meet others and to build community. Beyond the Bottle Oven Tour

Ukulele build (assembly from Kit)

Make a ukulele! This course is aimed at people with no experience in woodwork but would love to make a musical instrument. We start the day with a part assembled kit that has all the materials for you to complete the ukulele in 4.5 hours, plus a 20 minute lunch. There is no dangerous machinery needed in this build. Just bring a bit of common sense and you will have a great time with plenty of tea and coffee to keep us going. If we get time I may even sing a song at the end!

"Scroll Saw" Write Your Name in Wood

This course is a fun way to learn how to use the scroll saw to make a wooden name of your choice, ideal for a gift. We will first lay out the letters on paper then glue the paper to the wood. We next cut out the drawing with the scroll saw making sure to get on the line or very near. We then cut out any middles of lettering and clean up the name ready for finishing oil. You can now take home your work for all to see.

Bandsaw box making day

The Bandsaw box making day is about 5.00 hours and suitable for anyone over 18 to senior citizens. The main tools for the day are the bandsaw and belt sander also the oscillating sander. After using one of the several templates to draw the outline we then cut the various parts of the box. Once the box is glued we can use the sanders to smooth the work then we are ready for the Danish oil finish or shellac. When its oiled you can take your project home to show your family and friends.

Cigar Box Guitar making day

On the Cigar box making course you will make a 3 stringed instrument sometimes called a Dulcimer due to the fret spacing. This instrument can be played acoustically but we will include a small internal pick up so you can play through the amplifier. The instrument will be tuned to DAD and it can be great fun using a bottle neck for slide guitar too. The instrument is 850 mm or 34 inches long and take about 7 hours to complete. The box size is approx 11 inch x 6 inch You can take home your instrument at the end of the day!

Clock making day

This Clock Making Day will teach you how to work with wood and various tools to make a beautiful wooden clock. You will learn about accurate marking out and will use the bandsaw and sander. Most of the parts are drawn from our templates. The clock itself runs from a small battery. Any of the woods seen in the photos can vary due to my stock levels but usually we have something similar in the workshop. At the end of the day we finish the clock with shellac or Danish oil. You'll come away with a lovely finished piece to be proud of!

Foot stool making day

We start the project by drawing around templates and cut the basic shapes. After cutting a square mortice we then make a through tenon and two triangular pegs to lock the sides of the stool. When finishing the project we use danish oil or wood stain to show the beauty of the Oak grain. This build is reasonably easy and should only take 6 hours with 30 mins for lunch. Tea is available all day.

Jewellery box making day

This 1 day course is a great way to understand some of the finer woodworking needed to complete this Jewellery box. The box is made from Oak and Walnut inlay. We usually start with the 45 degree mitre saw then we use the table saw to make the grooves around the box and to create the inlay in the centre. Later we will cut the lid off the box and fit the hinges etc, we will then sand all surfaces and finish with some Danish oil. We then add the hinges and clasp. You can now take home your beautiful new box.
