Rainy Day Picks This Weekend

11–12 July Near Penkelli (Pencelli)

Not every listing gets a golden ticket

We check the usual frankly silly number of local websites, then look for events that feel rainy-day friendly: cinemas, theatres, talks, workshops, galleries, concerts, cosy venues, and anything less likely to involve standing in a muddy field making brave weather noises.

Happening Saturday 11 July to Sunday 12 July.
Picked for Penkelli (Pencelli), not somewhere halfway across the county.
Only Local Gems and Curated venues make the cut, because standards are still a thing.
Listings with proper descriptions get bumped up the list. Three words and a shrug will not do.

Mik Artistik’s Ego Trip1

Mik Artistik’s Ego Trip

at The Globe

8pm “My favourite song of the last decade… because it’s human, it’s real and it has soul.” — Iggy Pop Wildly original, gloriously unpredictable, and impossible to pigeonhole, Mik Artistik’s Ego Trip are one of the UK’s most beloved underground live acts. For many years they were a Glastonbury tradition , drawing crowds who wouldn’t dream of starting their festival without witnessing Mik’s riotous sets at the Croissant Neuf Bandstand or the Rocket Lounge—performances that have become part of Glastonbury folklore. At the heart of it all is Mik himself—part punk-poet, part surreal philosopher, part stand-up comic—fixing the audience with his compelling stare before launching into improvised tales, spoken-word detours, spontaneous tangents, and moments of both hilarity and tenderness. Every show feels handcrafted for the people in the room, full of unpredictable interaction, surreal humour, and the occasional burst of unexpected interpretive dancing that leave audiences roaring with laughter. This unique performance energy is powered by the razor-sharp musicianship of Jonny Flockton and a rotating cast of superb bass players, weaving together rock, soul, funk, cosmic country, and DIY punk spirit into a sound entirely their own. Their fan base spans generations—anyone who loves clever lyrics, fearless live performance, and gigs that feel alive.

Across The Universe is a celebration of The Beatles' "studio years" 1966-1970. This unique show featuring live band and orchestra is a must-see for all Beatles fans. The music recorded by the Beatles from 1966-1970 represents some of the most ground-breaking strides in popular music history, in terms of songwriting ingenuity, recording techniques and the establishing of different musical genres within pop music.
