Pokémon joins Fountains Abbey’s Summer of Play

Head to the circus tents on the ball games field and see what we've got in store for you. You’ll be hopping, skipping and jumping around different activity stations. Calling Pokémon fans new and old! This Summer of Play, Pokémon are jumping into the great outdoors near you. Are you ready to share the magic with a new generation? From 18 July - 6 September, on top of an already jam-packed Summer of Play, discover all-new Pokémon zones. Get stuck into the Pokémon Trading Card Game, flex your skills and collect Mega Evolution stickers! Plus, join the Pokémon Trading Card Game Mega Evolution Trail. Team up as a family to search for each Mega Evolution Pokémon, discover their powers, and complete your own challenges. Discover Pokémon zones in the Ball Games Field. Don’t forget your imagination… As well as all that excitement, challenge your friends and family to a game of soft archery. Who's going to win the space hopper racing? Hop on a balance bike and see who can reach the finish line first. And, if you still have some energy, head to the play area where inquisitive little minds can be let loose to play even more. Summer of Play activities will be taking place in the circus tents on the ball games field at the visitor centre so little legs won't have to far to wander. Standard admission charges apply.

Garden and abbey tour

While it's often thought that the abbey ruin is the reason for our World Heritage Site status, it's actually the water garden at Studley Royal. Join a guided tour to find out more about this artificially manipulated 'feat of human creative genius' designed by the Aislabie's in the 1700s. Start to see the abbey as the Georgians did; incorporated into the dramatic designed landscape and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The garden and abbey tour lasts 1 hour 30 minutes and will be run twice a day, seven days a week, until Sunday 1 November. Unfortunately, sometimes our volunteer guides aren't available and we have to cancel tours. Please ask the admission staff on your arrival for the tour schedule on that day.

Have you ever wondered that stories these ruins could tell if these walls could talk? Unearth the monastic secrets of a great abbey, now part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the daily routines of the monks who lived here on this guided tour. The abbey tour lasts one hour and will be run twice a day, seven days a week until Sunday 1 November. If you'd like to find out more, you can meet a guide in the abbey cloister, at 1pm and 3pm, where they'll be able to answer any of your questions and discuss the history of the ruins in more detail. Fountains Mill is the oldest building on the estate. Built by the Cistercians in the 12th century, the building has been adapted and modified over many years. Find out more about this building on a free guided tour. Meet at Porter's Lodge at 2.30pm for an approximately 1 hour long tour. If you’re interested in the history of the estate, join us on a daily tour of the garden and abbey. Or pop into Porter’s Lodge to see the free exhibition. Join this free tour to find out how the monks fed themselves, clothed themselves and earned an income to support their community. Fountains Mill is the oldest building on the estate. Built by the Cistercians in the 12th century, the building has been adapted and modified over many years. Find out more about the food, drink and materials that were made in the mill and its surrounding buildings and how these products helped the inhabitants of the abbey and its economy. Renew Ripon

Renew Ripon is a quiet shared space where it is OK not to be OK. Mental illness is rising and the pandemic & lockdown has exacerbated the issue. Renew Ripon is for anyone who feels they might be struggling with life: loneliness, isolation, anxiety, confidence. If you want to have a cuppa, a chat, try some mindful or reflective activities, or just find out what Renew Ripon is about pop in any time between 11.30 am and 1 .30 pm on a Monday during the day or between 6.30 pm and 8.30 pm on a Tuesday evening. We don't claim to have all the answers but we can point you in the direction of other professionals who might and you will find our team caring, supportive and willing to listen. Every one is welcome to come and find a place to renew.
