Pokémon joins Fountains Abbey’s Summer of Play

Head to the circus tents on the ball games field and see what we've got in store for you. You’ll be hopping, skipping and jumping around different activity stations. Calling Pokémon fans new and old! This Summer of Play, Pokémon are jumping into the great outdoors near you. Are you ready to share the magic with a new generation? From 18 July - 6 September, on top of an already jam-packed Summer of Play, discover all-new Pokémon zones. Flex your skills and collect Mega Evolution stickers! Team up as a family to search for each Mega Evolution Pokémon, discover their powers, and complete your own challenges. Discover Pokémon zones in the Ball Games Field. Don’t forget your imagination… As well as all that excitement, challenge your friends and family to a game of soft archery. Who's going to win the space hopper racing? Hop on a balance bike and see who can reach the finish line first. And, if you still have some energy, head to the play area where inquisitive little minds can be let loose to play even more. Summer of Play activities will be taking place in the circus tents on the ball games field at the visitor centre so little legs won't have to far to wander. Standard admission charges apply.

Garden and abbey tour

While it's often thought that the abbey ruin is the reason for our World Heritage Site status, it's actually the water garden at Studley Royal. Join a guided tour to find out more about this artificially manipulated 'feat of human creative genius' designed by the Aislabie's in the 1700s. Start to see the abbey as the Georgians did; incorporated into the dramatic designed landscape and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The garden and abbey tour lasts 1 hour 30 minutes and will be run twice a day, seven days a week, until Sunday 1 November. Unfortunately, sometimes our volunteer guides aren't available and we have to cancel tours. Please ask the admission staff on your arrival for the tour schedule on that day.

Robes at the ready? Join us for a free family tour Step back in time and discover what life was really like as a monk at Fountains Abbey. Can you keep your vow of silence like the monks did? How many of the abbey rules could you stick to today? Put your skills to the test as you explore the abbey and find out what daily life was like hundreds of years ago. Got your own monk's robe? Bring it along! If not, don't worry – we have robes available to borrow so everyone can look the part. Grown-ups, you'll need to stay with your little monks throughout the tour. The good news? We have adult-sized robes too, so the whole family can join in the fun.

Unearth the monastic secrets of a great abbey, now part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the daily routines of the monks who lived here on this guided tour. The abbey tour lasts one hour and will be run twice a day, seven days a week until Sunday 1 November. If you'd like to find out more, you can meet a guide in the abbey cloister, at 1pm and 3pm, where they'll be able to answer any of your questions and discuss the history of the ruins in more detail. Summer of Play: Circus skill workshops

Join Mr Dan for an all interactive circus skills workshop all part of our jam-packed Summer of Play. Drop in any time between 1pm - 3pm to try your hand a at a new circus skill such as diabolo, plate spinning, juggling, balancing boards, stilts, fun wheels, hoops and flower sticks. There will be two instructors on hand to teach you the ropes. Maybe you'll discover a new talent.

Fountains Mill is the oldest building on the estate. Built by the Cistercians in the 12th century, the building has been adapted and modified over many years. Find out more about this building on a free guided tour. Meet at Porter's Lodge at 2.30pm for an approximately 1 hour long tour. If you’re interested in the history of the estate, join us on a daily tour of the garden and abbey. Or pop into Porter’s Lodge to see the free exhibition. Summer of Play: Harrogate Town AFC

We’ve teamed up with the Harrogate Town AFC Community Foundation to bring you a summer full of games and activities for kids of all ages. Expect high-energy fun, team games and keep an eye out for special appearances from Harrogate Town AFC mascot, Harry Gator. Harrogate Town AFC Community Foundation will be leading some football and cricket sessions every Thursday of the school summer holidays Football sessions: Work on key skills like dribbling, passing, shooting, and teamwork through exciting drills and mini-games. The session ends with friendly matches where everyone gets a chance to shine. Whether your child is new to football or looking to improve, this session is all about learning, playing, and having fun in a safe and supportive environment! Cricket sessions: Cover the basics and beyond – including batting, bowling, fielding, and teamwork – through exciting drills and games. The session finishes with a mini match where everyone can put their skills into action. Whether your child is new to cricket or looking to sharpen their game, this is the perfect way to learn, play, and enjoy the sport in a friendly, supportive setting! Each session will run for 45 minutes and sessions will alternate between football and cricket.

Thursday Lunch Club

Thursday Lunch Club, is one of our highlights of the week. We have a dedicated team of volunteers, including a local restaurateur, who will prepare and serve a three course lunch. The food is lovely and so is the company. Just come along for and enjoy great food and good company. It is just £4.00 for a main; £8.00 for 2 courses and £10.00 for 3. Every 1st, 3rd and 5th Thursday there is also a short spoken Holy Communion before hand if you wish to attend. All are welcome. We look forward to seeing you!
