Register Here You’ll receive a mini library kit with an aluminum tin, popsicle sticks, origami paper, miniatures, and our favorite—miniature library books! We’ll have all the craft supplies on hand so you can focus on creating your own personalized mini library. You can take your tiny creation home and add it to your bookshelf, or put it on display for National Library Week! If you choose to display your mini library, you’ll be able to pick it up at the end of the month. Image Editing for Beginners

Being able to create, edit, and manipulate images on a computer is an essential skill for digital creatives. This workshop will get you started! Get ready to learn how to retouch photographs, adjust colors, combine images, and so much more! Whether you are preserving family photographs, creating fliers, or producing art, attend this event to get started. Moderate computer and basic reading skills are required. We will be using a three-button mouse, keyboard shortcuts with modifier keys, browsing the file system, and using specialized language for image-editing terms. You will need to know your email address and password. Creating a free account is required for the software we are teaching. Bring a USB flash drive to save your work. There is no cost to attend. Afternoon Tea with Ida

Register Here Why Afternoon Tea? Ida Day Holzapfel was extremely dedicated to the library during her time here. Her dedication and achievements had a long-lasting impact on the library and Hutchinson. During her time at the library she and her assistants cataloged every single book for the first time, began outreach and home deliveries, moved the library to its current location at 9th and Main, and started the Bookmobile program. We’ve learned about her through stories passed down over time. Her dedication to the library could make her difficult to work with at times, especially if she felt her coworkers didn’t share her dedication to the library. Nonetheless, she cared very much for the library and the community it serves. She was described as a very proper woman and had afternoon tea at 3:00 PM every day with her employees. It’s very fitting to celebrate her 138th birthday with afternoon tea. Our library has continued to grow and provide vital services to Hutchinson, continuing the work she began over 100 years ago. The programs and services we offer have grown substantially over the years while the cost to Hutchinson has remained low, something that has always been important to our mission. Machine Embroidery Workshop

Visit the Makerspace for a demonstration of our machine-embroidery equipment! This is a two-part workshop where the scheduled event is a presentation-only walkthrough of an embroidery job, then you can return at your convenience for hands-on experience. We will be showing an overview of how to digitize a design on the computer, hoop your fabric and thread the embroidery machine, customize the embroidery job on the machine, and stitch-out your custom design.
