For the Record - Books + Music Club

For the Record is a place for music lovers to gather and share their love of both reading about and listening to music. Join us for a monthly meetup on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:00PM. We dive into the stories behind iconic musicians and albums, while sharing our favorite tracks and newest record finds. We read the 33 1/3 series. These are short books, each about a different musician and album. We explore a new one each month with a discussion about the book, album and the music that moves us. Whether you are a vinyl enthusiast or just passionate about discovering new sounds, For the Record offers a fun and welcoming space to connect. We meet every month except for September. The LYN cafe is open every Thursday from 10:30am until 12:45pm at the Salthouse. There's always free tea, coffee and cakes at the ready, as well as good conversation and fun activities like pool, table tennis and table football. It's a great space to find community and a chance to meet new people. Jacket potatoes are served from 12:00pm with a choice of toppings. We also have a weekly foodbank if you need a little extra support. Come and check it out for yourself!

3D Printing Certification

3D Printing Certification

We will soon require training to use our 3D printing services. This introductory workshop covers basic information to perform 3D printing projects. Completing it gives you access to use our 3D printing equipment, and you will make a small 3D print at no cost. There is no cost to attend. Basic computer and reading skills are required. No previous experience is required. Seats are limited, but this workshop will be offered regularly. If you can’t attend a scheduled workshop, please contact us to discuss alternatives. The Makerspace will be closed to other activities during this workshop. You may need to return later to pick up your completed 3D print IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ: Young children must be able to understand written and verbal instructions unaided, as well as use a desktop computer. Each individual attending will need a current Hutchinson Public Library Card. Student library cards are not valid for Makerspace workshops.

Get creative at the library on a Friday afternoon with miniatures. We’ll provide some, and we encourage you to bring your own to add to your mini library! Register Here You’ll receive a mini library kit with an aluminum tin, popsicle sticks, origami paper, miniatures, and our favorite—miniature library books! We’ll have all the craft supplies on hand so you can focus on creating your own personalized mini library. You can take your tiny creation home and add it to your bookshelf, or put it on display for National Library Week! If you choose to display your mini library, you’ll be able to pick it up at the end of the month. Our library continues to grow and provide vital services to Hutchinson while the cost to our community has remained low, something that has always been important to our mission. At Deans Sport & Leisure for two hours of roller disco, an eclectic mix of music, games (stuck in the mud and/or a limbo bar), skates for hire, and awesome marshals to support or skaters and keep everyone safe. Deans sports hall is huge with lots of space to skate and super smooth to skate on too – if you’ve not been before it might be helpful to look at our what to expect page for Deans. Tickets will be available on the door even after our online sales ages are welcome but we require anyone aged 14 or under to be accompanied by an adult/parent/guardian throughout the event. Skaters can use their own skates provided they are clean and have wheels and brake blocks that will not mark the floor. More information about the event can be found on our FAQ page, and we’d recommend anyone new to our events takes a quick look at that and at our what to expect page.
