What's on in Westburn

Lanarkshire, Scotland

Book clubs, bingo, and the occasional village fête that's surprisingly well organised — Westburn punches well above its weight for local events, and Lanarkshire's all the better for it. You'll find everything from craft workshops the kids won't stop asking about to open mic nights that are genuinely worth staying up past nine for. The big listings sites have never heard of half these venues, which is their loss and your gain. Parish council listings, community centre noticeboards, pub websites we've had to zoom in on to read properly — we've checked them all so you don't have to.

East End Women's Heritage Walk

Image taken by Ruth Ewan in the GWL archive This guided walk will focus on some of the achievements and struggles of the industrious and resourceful women of Glasgow’s East End, and the radical nature of the area which gave birth to them. You’ll learn about the women of the Templeton factory, the suffragettes, the brazen women of Glasgow Green, Battling Betty, the woman who set up the Barras and many, many more! To find out more about our other women’s heritage walks and trails, including downloadable maps and audio tours visit: https://womenslibrary.org.uk/discover-our-projects/women-make-history/womens-heritage-walks/ Song Share // Hive Mind Book now Accessibility The majority of the route is on wide even pavements by main roads, or flat paths through Glasgow Green. The walk is at a gentle pace and a flat route, led by GWL tour guides with stops all along the way to find out about women’s heritage in the East End. If you’d like to speak to someone about the walk in advance and let us know your access needs, please contact us – we are happy to answer any questions. Large print versions of the tour guides’ scripts are available on the day. Unfortunately we can only accept support dogs on the walk. Booking We have three tickets to choose from. Please pick the ticket price which you can afford. All proceeds from ticket sales go to resourcing our work to celebrate women’s lives and achievements, and provide accessible and inclusive learning opportunities.
