What's on in Church Hougham

Kent, England

Book clubs, bingo, and the occasional village fête that's surprisingly well organised — Church Hougham punches well above its weight for local events, and Kent's all the better for it. You'll find everything from craft workshops the kids won't stop asking about to open mic nights that are genuinely worth staying up past nine for. The big listings sites have never heard of half these venues, which is their loss and your gain. Parish council listings, community centre noticeboards, pub websites we've had to zoom in on to read properly — we've checked them all so you don't have to.

The Smyths

For more than twenty years, The Smyths have brought the music of The Smiths back to life in the live arena across more than 900 shows in the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand as well as countless festivals including Glastonbury, The Isle of Wight and Bestival. Acclaimed by Johnny Marr, Mike Joyce and the late Andy Rourke and also Stephen Street (The Smiths Producer – who has played live with the band on occasion), The Smyths pay homage to the band who will never re-form, imagining what The Smiths would sound like today as a stadium indie rock band after more than 40 years of playing the songs to several generations of fans; from the teens of then who are Grandparents now, to their children and onto to the teens of today. The music of The Smiths remains as fresh and important as it did at the time of its inception. The Smyths are a celebration of the band and the music and focus on the experiential, the fevered rush of a brilliant band playing the songs of a generation that reverberates and resonates today. The Smyths continue to play UK headline shows at iconic venues such as Shepherds Bush Empire, Brixton Academy, Cardiff Tramshed, The Electric Ballroom Camden, Newcastle City Hall, and The Ritz in Manchester and have tours booked across the world in 2024 and 2025. For anyone mourning the live absence of the original band, The Smyths are the closest you’ll ever get to being there.
