King Alfred Place sits right in the heart of Winchester, a spot where history leans against the pavement and you can still find good gigs at The Arc Winchester if you ask nicely. It is hardly surprising that the Theatre Royal has been pulling crowds for decades while the local craft scene keeps popping up with new ideas every few months. We like to think of this town as one big, friendly house where neighbours swap stories over a cup of tea and then head off to see what's on. There are plenty of reasons to come along and watch a play, catch a live band, or simply wander past a stall selling something you did not know you needed until now.

New Researchers in Maritime History Conference is taking place this year on 17-18 April 2026 at the University of Southampton.
