Nalbinding Development Workshop

Grow your nalbinding knowledge and discover how to do the Oslo stitch (and its ‘family’), a stitching technique that dates back to the pre-historical period. Explore the history of the technique from the earliest evidence through to its survival into 19th and 20th century Scandinavia. Gain hands-on experience as you learn how to do the Oslo stitch, which is one of the most commonly used methods at heritage sites and by Viking, Frankish, and Anglo-Saxon re-enactors. Begin a small project (a hat or a bag) that you can finish at home. No previous experience needed, however good for those who have done nalbinding before and wish to grow and develop their skills.

The Friends of the Church of St Hubert and the Parochial Church Council welcome back Empty Frets to create a relaxed evening at the church. Empty Frets are a 5-piece band from the New Forest that play based a range of music from the Buddy Holly of the '60's to Paloma Faith, Beth Hart, and Bryan Adams of the '00's. There's a bit of Country, some Folk Rock, and more than a touch of Blues too. Plus a few original numbers thrown into the mixture.

Craft a decorated copper arm cuff in the style of Viking jewellery. Discover how to use the technique ‘chasing and repoussé’ to make simple patterns on a band of copper, which will later be formed into an arm cuff. Work with heat, hammers and a variety of metal tools to create your designs. Learn about pitch, an important material used in chasing and repoussé as well as a tried and tested recipe to make it.

Escape the modern world for half a day - join a small group fireside in a recreated neolithic house to take the chance for some hands-on learning with knowledgeable historian Paul Ullson. Handle a wide variety of artefacts (recreated by Paul using authentic methods) and get to grips with animal furs to better understand the lives of our ancestors. Receive an induction into the Stone Age and have the chance to ask all the questions which you were never able to in school! Learn to finger braid a leather cord and thread on a tooth to make a necklace - a memento of the time you stepped back in time.
