Rainy Day Picks This Weekend in Stubbins

10 picks around Stubbins, from 8 local venues. The map pin is doing actual work here.

25–26 July Near Stubbins

Not every listing gets a golden ticket

We check the usual frankly silly number of local websites, then look for events that feel rainy-day friendly: cinemas, theatres, talks, workshops, galleries, concerts, cosy venues, and anything less likely to involve standing in a muddy field making brave weather noises.

Happening Saturday 25 July to Sunday 26 July.
Picked for Stubbins, not somewhere halfway across the county.
Only Local Gems and Curated venues make the cut, because standards are still a thing.
Listings with proper descriptions get bumped up the list. Three words and a shrug will not do.

Councillors' Surgeries

at Connect at The Unity Hub

We run a free film night upstairs in the Pyramid Room on the last Friday of every month from 7pm . Snacks and refreshments are provided and you do not need to book in advance to attend - just show up on the day. Donations to help with our running costs are greatly appreciated, but are not at all compulsory. We try to show a wide variety of films from all over the world, both classics and contemporary releases, but always with a theme we feel relevant to our religion and ethos of equality for all, or relevant to contemporary social issues. Though the films we show often cover serious topics, our film nights are always laid back and we encourage anyone to attend - our main aim is to bring people together for an inexpensive evening all can enjoy. The film for this month will be the amazing 20th Century Women (2016), directed by Mike Mills. Join us from 7pm on Friday 25th July to see it with us. Please see the schedule below for our film listings for to July-November 2025.

Food Club

at St James' Church

We are open every Saturday morning at Ash Grove Shops for anyone who needs a little extra help. Come along to see some friendly faces and collect some food to keep you going for a few days. We ask for a small donation of £2 to help cover some of our costs, but the food you receive will be worth much more than this. We welcome donations too. These can be dropped off whilst we are open on a Saturday morning. We accept long life food (e.g. tins and packets) and financial donations. We are grateful for support from New Ground, Awards for All, local churches, community organisations and many individuals.

Family Craft Activity: Decorate a Postcard

at The Minden Suite

During the First World War, many soldiers sent beautifully embroidered postcards to loved ones back home. See some of these special postcards on display in the museum, then create and decorate your own postcard to take home. Why not write a message and send it to a family member or friend?

Storytelling service - 2nd and 4th Sunday each month at 9.30am

at St Mary's Church

A relaxed and family friendly service for parents with young children. Based on Godly Play, the service begins with a song in the chancel before one of the children leads us through to our 'special place' for a story (told using wooden figures and simple scenery). The story is followed by a short time for prayer and then 'the feast' which comprises a biscuit and drink for the children. We then go back to the chancel for two more songs (usually noisy with instruments), after which the children have themed craft in our newly restored meeting area. There is a chair lift available for wheelchair users. Adults have tea, coffee and biscuits while their children engage in craft activities craft, although we encourage them to get stuck in as well.
