Summer of Play at Dyrham Park

There will be a festival-feel with imaginative, performance and creative play at Old Lodge, and a mini-maze, games and challenges planned down by the house. Guided walk: the archaeology of Dyrham Park

From deer park earthworks, pillow mounds, a horse engine, water tanks and more, find out how the use of the park has developed over time and what these can tell us about life at Dyrham in years gone by. The walk will go into areas not normally open to the public. It will start at visitor reception and go through the parkland and finish down by the house and garden. The walks are free of charge but booking is essential to avoid disappointment as numbers are limited.

Exhibition: Journeys - Asafo flags from the Karun Thakar collection at Dyrham Park

‘Journeys’ draws on highlights from Thakar’s global textile collections to explore themes of migration, trade, craftsmanship, colonialism, global history and beauty. Through the universal theme of ‘journeys’, the exhibitions reveal the complex histories of objects, materials, and people – examining both tangible heritage and living traditions. Vibrant textile displays and film will reveal stories often left untold and show how these historic houses were shaped by global connections and colonial legacies. In the house at Dyrham Park will be vibrant Asafo flags. One of the most important West African art forms, they fuse European naval insignia with local traditions and symbolism, reflecting resistance and adaptation during colonial encounters. Displayed throughout Dyrham’s interiors, and placed alongside portraits and objects, they will deepen narratives of 17th-century global trade and colonial history embedded in the house.

Laughter in Line- Line Dancing Club

Laughter in Line is our local Line Dancing club, we’ve been dancing (and laughing) in the Iron Acton Parish Hall since 2007. We have a beginners class on a Thursday at 7:30pm and then Improvers class straight after (8:30pm). We start afresh most Septembers (with “Absolute Beginners” dances) and build up with new steps each week so that by the following summer, dancers should be feeling confident enough to try Improvers. People can join us at any time – it’s just easier for you, if you join in September.

Community Cafe

Running alongside our food bank session every Friday morning, our Community Cafe offers a welcoming space for all - whether you're picking up a food bank parcel, or just fancy a cuppa and some good company. We've got plenty of hot drinks and pastries, toys for the kids, and friendly conversation. All of our refreshments are completely free, however you are welcome to give a donation if you wish and are able to do so. But there's no pressure! We've also got a lovely team on hand, along with helpful professionals, offering advice and signposting if you need it. Drop in anytime between 10am and 12pm. We'd love to see you there!
