Mount Melville sits quietly in Fife with a character that feels like it stepped straight out of a gentle seaside storybook. There are no big venues to shout about, but the local community halls and village greens always manage to pull together something proper for a Saturday afternoon. It is a place where you can find your neighbours rather than just scrolling past them on a screen. The town has that old-school charm where everyone knows who runs the shop next door and what's going on at the weekly market. Even if the programme changes from week to week, there is usually a fair bit of good cheer happening somewhere within walking distance. You don't need to hunt for entertainment here; it just tends to find you while you are having your tea.

One-to-One Sewing

One of our lovely volunteer skillsharers is offering a FREE one-to-one sewing class in her St Andrews home. Do email Anya, our Skillshare Coordinator, if you would like to sign up and learn basic sewing repairs, how to make alterations, how to make something simple like a purse/bag or simply how to use a sewing machine. The classes are usually on a Tuesday and timings are flexible, but other days are also possible.

Bird and foraging walk – Biodiversity Awareness Day

As part of Biodiversity Awareness Day organised by University of St Andrews students, we’re running a joint bird watching and foraging walk along the lovely, peaceful Lade Braes. We’ll meander along the river and through the woods, ending at East Sands if time allows. We might catch glimpses of dipper or even the sparklingly bright flash of a kingfisher, as well as possible summer migrants. At this time of year there are also lots of intriguing plants, buds and blossom that can be foraged for soups, teas and even made into syrups and cakes! All welcome, however please book your spot as places are limited. See the button on the top right of the page. Bring binoculars if you have them; we will supply a few too!

The money then gets reinvested into Transition’s other activities and events, to keep them no or low cost.

Peoples Emergency Briefing and Discussion

The People’s Emergency Briefing is a national campaign to bring about a national debate in parliament about the risks and response to British life from ongoing damage to nature and to our climate. The purpose of the Briefing is to support informed democratic discussion and ensure that national and local decision-makers, alongside the public, share a common understanding of the scale and urgency of the challenge. Following the 45-minute film, we will host a 45-minute local discussion on what this means for our community, including implications for local preparedness, resilience and long-term planning. Sewing Skillshare Classes

University student group Reclaim Runway, established by 3rd year student Aidan, are running a series of free community sewing classes for adults – students, staff and locals all welcome. They are for both beginners as well as accomplished machinists and will support you with hand-sewing and machine sewing basics. All materials and equipment are provided – these have been part funded by Transition, with some materials sourced from our St AndReuse store as well.
