Moorland Park sits pretty in Devon with a bit of everything going on between the fields and the village. The South Brent Recreation Association has been hosting local groups for years, often turning up with a craft stall or a quiz night that keeps neighbours chatting long after the lights go down. It is not hard to find something to do without leaving the county. Pub nights pop up through the season and the odd family gathering keeps things interesting in this quiet corner of the world. STCW Elementary First Aid (1 day)

STCW Elementary First Aid is one of the four compulsory commercial modules required to work on vessels covered by the STCW convention. It is internationally recognised and covers CPR, breaks & splints, bandaging, drowning and hypothermia and much more. Our instructors are career professionals in the medical world and are serving paramedics in most cases. We choose them carefully to ensure they have specific seafarer knowledge as well as extensive experience in their field. The course conforms to “Regulation VI/1, paragraph 1 and Section A-VI/1, paragraph 2.1.1.3 of the STCW Convention and Code 1978, as amended”. In accordance with IMO rules, this course has no expiry date since it is considered the certificate holder will be acting as an initial responder under the guidance onboard ship of the holder of a more advanced Medical First Aid certificate. (Please note that if the Elementary First Aid qualification is used as part of the requirements to be in charge of a vessel working in the MCA Small Craft code or similar it should be renewed every 5 years.) This course can be booked as an individual course or as part of the full STCW 5 day combined package Duration: 1 Day

Proficiency in Security Awareness is a course offering new and experienced crew members the basic information required to carry out security duties onboard and help you to have a heightened security awareness. The International Ship and Port Security (ISPS) code outlines the need for security and vigilance onboard merchant vessels of all sizes. This course aims to ensure you can: report a security incident, including a piracy or armed robbery threat or attack; know the procedures to follow when they recognise a security threat ; and take part in security-related emergency and contingency procedures. The course is compulsory for all new crew members and for existing crew members unless they have had at least six months documented sea service on an approved vessel between 1st January 2009 and 1st January 2012 or already hold the SSO or CSO qualification. Join us for SUMMERSONG at the ABBEY, an uplifting afternoon of harmony singing in the stunning Great Hall. After three sold-out events, we’re thrilled to welcome voices together once again for a joyful celebration of summer through song. This three-hour workshop will be led by Emily Marshall, Elena Harris and Holly Taylor-Zuntz: three local choir leaders with different musical flavours joining forces to share songs they love. Singing Mamas demo with Hope Buzza

A free drop-in session to come and listen/sing and find out what Singing Mamas is all about. Hope has been leading Singing Mamas at Lukesland since September 2024. Aimed at supporting women's perinatal health and wellbeing the songs are easy to learn lullabies, harmonies and seasonal songs from around the world. The sessions run on Monday mornings 10-11.30 in term time - up in the woods at the Forest School site when weather allows, and inside in the tearoom when not. This session will be on the old tennis court lawn, up the steps from the tearoom. No need to book. All welcome!
