Walk the Ethels: Back Tor & Lost Lad

In celebration of Ethel Haythornthwaite and 100 years of CPRE Peak District and South Yorkshire, we are leading guided walks up the many Ethels on land cared for by the National Trust. The Ethels are 95 hills in the Peak District named in tribute to Ethel Haythornthwaite, who founded CPRE Peak District and South Yorkshire in 1924 (then called the Sheffield Association for the Protection of Rural Scenery.) Her activism saved Longshaw Estate from development and helped establish the Peak District as the UK’s first National Park in 1951. Join us on a circular walk summiting Back Tor and Lost Lad from Fairholmes Visitor Centre. The walk begins in the shadow of the famous Derwent Dam before a steep ascent onto Green Sitches and on to Lost Lad, which offers stunning views of Derwent Valley and Derwent Moor. We'll then continue to Back Tor and follow Derwent Edge until we descend to Ladybower Reservoir and follow the shoreline back to the car park. This moderately challenging walk is approximately 8 miles and includes a steep ascent and follows an uneven footpath. The walk is not suitable for pushchairs or prams. Dogs on leads are welcome but there may be some stiles. Our walk leaders are incredibly knowledgeable, so please ask as many questions about the area as you like!

Join us for a pilgrimage to Kinder Scout – a Holy Mountain charged with powerful spiritual energies. Tune in to the energy of this beautiful sacred place, be uplifted by its spiritual power and send out spiritual energy for world peace! Find out more about Pilgrimages to Holy Mountains: https://www.aetherius.org/pilgrimages-to-holy-mountains/ This pilgrimage will be followed by a relaxed social at a local venue – meet like-minded souls, chat with kindred spirits, and make new spiritual friends! When you register, your confirmation email will include information about travel, where and when to meet, and details about the social afterwards. The Service at the Charged Rock (near the summit) will be held at 12 noon. IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT PILGRIMAGES TO HOLY MOUNTAINS: Mountains are potentially very dangerous places. We recommend that if you have a long distance to travel, you arrive the day prior to a Pilgrimage at suitable local accommodation so as to have a good night’s rest before climbing the mountain on the following day. We strongly suggest having a good breakfast and drinking plenty of fluids before climbing. You should be well prepared for sudden changes in the weather – wear mountain boots, and carry both warm and waterproof clothing. Suitable headgear, sunblock, insect repellent, energy bars and water are all basic essentials but requirements will vary depending on the mountain and weather conditions.

Celtic Worship

Celtic style worship, taking place outdoors for most of the year, and focused on finding God in the world around us. Location moves around the benefice, usually in the grounds of one of our churches. We move indoors during the winter months (and if the weather is very inclement), but still use a Celtic style worship. Always includes time for individual, themed exploration of the surroundings. . Kinder Reservoir from Bowden Bridge

Summer is one of the most exciting times to explore the Peak District's hidden gems with our carefully curated walk offering a low-level walk in the shadow of Kinder. Join us on a circular walk in the shadow of the beautiful Kinder Scout National Nature Reserve. We’ll walk in the footsteps of the Kinder Mass Trespass as we march up to the edge of Kinder Scout before circling Kinder Reservoir and back to Hayfield. The walk is approximately 5 miles and includes a short section of road, moderate ascent, uneven paths, cobbles some fords and a stream crossing. Our walk leaders are incredibly knowledgeable, so please ask as many questions about the area as you like! Accompanied children are especially welcome but the walk is not suitable for pushchairs or prams.
