Buckland Hollow in Derbyshire is a quiet spot where the hills keep secrets and the pubs do most of the talking. Without any famous venues to shout about, we find the local charm in community halls that host quiz nights and village greens where summer fairs spill over into the evening. It turns out a good neighbourly chat is often better entertainment than you can buy at a ticket office. The town has always managed to keep things lively without needing a single marquee or concert hall. We're happy enough with a game of bowls on Saturday and a film night in the school hall on a rainy Tuesday.
