Hot Fingers

Hot Fingers welcomes you to an eclectic mix of vintage acoustic music. As well as the red hot jazz of 1920’s New York, there will be sophisticated 1930’s Swing. They re-create the ‘French Coffee House’ sound of the king of gypsy swing Django Reinhardt, the blues guitars of Eddie Lang and Lonnie Johnson, and the syncopated Latin rhythms of Argentinean Oscar Aleman. This is mixed with vocals from the song-writing greats, crooners such as Bing Crosby and Al Bowlly, and hokem from the likes of Cliff ‘Ukulele Ike’ Edwards. From Jump-Jive to swing, from the Charleston to Bossa-Nova, Hot Finger’s wide range of styles and rhythms makes them popular with both sit-down audiences and dancers alike. The band comprises Spats Langham, Danny Blyth and Malcolm Sked. The well-known jazz musician Thomas ‘Spats’ Langham was born in 1971 and spent his childhood in Buxton. He started Ukulele as soon as his fingers were big enough, inspired by his Grandfather, and turned to Banjo at the age of 10. At 14 he was appearing with the Hot Spa Stompers, and soon after with Ged Hones Dixie Boys. It was Ged who encouraged Spats to start guitar. He moved to the Cotswolds in 1992 where he first met and worked with Malcolm Sked.

Headline act Lavinia Blackwall is a singer, songwriter and classically trained vocalist based in Glasgow. Best known as the frontwoman of the folk-rock band Trembling Bells, where her “soaring cut-glass soprano” defined the group’s “Wyrd Brit” sound. In 2020, she launched her solo career with the album Muggington Lane End, followed by the highly acclaimed 2025 release The Making. Backed by a full band, Lavinia’s solo work blends baroque pop and rock influences with her signature operatic power. Bitterbeck are an easy-going bunch of musicians from west Cumbria who perform catchy original songs in folk / blues styles, often with environmental themes – close harmonies, uplifting and finely-crafted songs to listen to, think about and sometimes dance to. WE ARE “The Meteorite” is both a band name and a statement, with core members Lee and Clare performing songs for the greatest challenge humanity has ever known. A very warm welcome to St Mary's, Rydal The church was built by Lady le Fleming of Rydal Hall in 1824. William Wordsworth was a churchwarden here around 10 years later. John McCusker’s ability to cross musical boundaries has seen him tour and record extensively with Mark Knopfler since 2008, performing on major stages including Madison Square Garden, the Hollywood Bowl and the Royal Albert Hall. He has also appeared with artists such as David Gilmour, Eric Clapton, Paul Weller, Paolo Nutini, Eddi Reader, Julie Fowlis, and many more.
