What's on in Amersham Common

Buckinghamshire, England

Amersham Common sits right on the edge of Chesham in Buckinghamshire, with a name that suggests plenty of space for wandering or just standing still and watching the world go by. The town has always had a quiet charm about it, yet there is usually something happening nearby to pull you away from your kettle. Near Here keeps track of everything from street fairs to local markets so you do not have to hunt through a dozen websites on a Sunday evening. You might find yourself joining a pop-up event or simply enjoying the view without needing to plan far ahead.

An evening with Jane Harper & Elly Griffiths

Get ready for a thrilling evening with best-selling authors Jane Harper and Elly Griffiths, as they chat about their brand new novels. LAST ONE OUT by Jane Harper He had been here, that was clear from the marks in the dust. And he had been alone. In a dying town, Ro Crowley waits for her son on the evening of his twenty-first birthday. Sam never comes home. His footprints in the dust of three abandoned houses offer the only clue to his final movements. One set in. One set out. Five long years later, Ro returns to Carralon Ridge for the annual memorial of Sam’s disappearance. The skeletal community is now an echo of itself, having fractured under the pressure of the coal mine operating on its outskirts. But Ro still wants answers. Only a few people remain. If the truth is to be found in that town, does it lie among them? THE KILLING TIME by Elly Griffiths Join Ali Dawson and her cold case team for another thrilling case. Ali Dawson is a police detective who leads a unit that investigates cases so cold her team must travel to the distant past to solve them. But Ali and the team haven’t been allowed to time-travel ever since their technical expert, Jones, got stuck in Victorian London, never to be seen again. To distract herself from meaningless tasks, Ali decides to look into a present-day case – an apparent suicide of a young man who fell to his death from a high building.

Guided Tudor Walk

Join a guided Tudor Walk to learn about life – and death – in 16th century Amersham Food and drink Markets and fairs Buildings and burgage plots Clothing and work Health and cures Religious beliefs and the Lollard martyrs These walks are led by guides in Tudor costume and start from the on the last Saturday in each month (April to September). The walk visits the church (weddings permitting!) then leaves the town and follows field paths. It includes a steady climb, which is taken slowly. Baby buggies have successfully managed the route and we did once get a mobility buggy up the hill! Be warned, if you pay for parking, that the walk usually lasts about 2¼ hours. It is possible to take a short cut near the end, which saves perhaps 15 minutes (most people don’t). We strongly recommending booking your tickets in advance to guarantee your place on our walks. While we will do our best to accommodate people on the day, places are subject to availability. Notes If you would like to visit the museum on the same day as your walk, this is possible from 11:30am before the walk starts, but there is not time after the walk finishes. If you have queries about accessibility or routes, please get in touch and we would be happy to provide you with detailed information. Please make sure you have checked details before ordering tickets. It is necessary for the museum to charge a cancellation fee of £1 to cover credit card and administration costs.
