About this event

Learn the traditional craft of Shona stone carving with Hilary Manuhwa, a master stone carver who joins us all the way from Zimbabwe. In this hands-on creative weekend, Hilary will guide you through the process of carving your own artwork, from start to finish, demonstrating techniques and offering 1 to 1 assistance. Shona stone carving is a globally renowned art movement originating from Zimbabwe, characterized by hand-carved sculptures that blend Shona spiritual beliefs with depictions of family, nature, and folklore. Primarily crafted from serpentine springstone, and verdite, these sculptures are often abstract or stylized, frequently polishing the stone to a high sheen while leaving raw, textured sections for contrast. This workshop will take place in the heart of our sculpture park, surrounded by artwork and nature. This is an opportunity to learn new skills in a serene and inspiring environment under the guidance and support of a master craftsman. All materials and tools are provided. No previous experience needed. Contact Katie at to reserve your space. More details on the Cotswold Sculpture Park website
