Join us every Friday at The Crescent Lounge for our popular Open Mic Night hosted by the brilliant Mally Jackson! This is always a very friendly and inclusive night with great camaraderie, where everyone is welcome to get up on stage and have a go! Whether you’re a singer, musician, comedian, or poet, very experienced or just starting out, the stage is yours. If you are not a performer, worry not! Come and sit back, relax, and enjoy the show! This is always a fantastic evening filled with amazing live performances from a following of great local artists.

Knitted Socks

If you love the idea of knitting your own socks but don’t fancy starting from scratch, this one’s for you! Come learn a new way to knit socks. Begin with a pre prepared knitted sock tube and learn to add an afterthought heel, toe and cuff. An afterthought heel is quite different to the usual heel, flap and gusset method, but nonetheless is a perfect fit There are so many ways to knit a sock. This one takes all the work out of knitting the main body of the sock, and is a lot of fun. Your sock draw will be filled in no time! You will choose a hand dyed knitted sock tube that’s been ‘cranked’ on a sock knitting machine using Ivy & Lilly yarn. This yarn is perfect for socks, machine washable, Super soft merino and nylon mix. There will be many colours to choose from on the day, including contrast colours for the heels, toes and cuff. The workshop will take place over two workshops in ‘3 hour’ sessions, where you will learn your new skills:- How to use a 9” small circumference circular sock needle - this will take practice and an open mind to learn this skill Remove waste yarn, pick up stitches, knit the toe, a 1x1 rib for cuff with stretchy bind off. Measuring and working out your own foot size Cutting the sock tube and inserting an ‘afterthought heel’ into the correct place.

Unity Café

Unity Café is focused on being a safe space for people thatperhaps are alone, want some company and support etc. But also somewhere to smile, laugh and enjoy a good coffee with friends. Will be led by Sheila and Alisonwho have both completed mental health first aid training along withsafeguarding etc etc. Sheila has a wealth of experience supporting peopleand that is the key focus of this open café. The Café itself has no religious focus, but we always offer theopportunity for people to light a candle to remember a loved one or to celebrate a joy in life. (they are atthe front of the Church). Join us for our Sunday afternoon Open Mic, hosted by the brilliant Charlie Flintoff and Emily Gaskell! This is always a very friendly and inclusive afternoon with great camaraderie, where everyone is welcome to get up on stage and have a go! Whether you’re a singer, musician, comedian, or poet, experienced or just starting out, the stage is yours. Our Sunday afternoon Open Mic is specifically aimed at young people who might just be starting out and unable to access other open mics due to age or experience. If you are not a performer, worry not! Come and sit back, relax, and enjoy being one of the first to experience Yorkshires next generation of Musicians!
