The April tour has now sold out. There are still tickets available for our October tour. Ever wondered what's behind the closed doors of Canons Ashby? Our House and Collections Officer and experienced House Guide will lead you around the historic mansion after we have closed to the public. They will tell you more about the conservation work we do, show you some secret hidden spaces, and show you some special items normally kept in our conservation store. Then, enjoy a cream tea in the Stables Tea-Room together. A cream tea includes a scone, jam, butter and cream, and hot drinks. Please note there are steps and stairs throughout the house. Some areas of the house are also poorly lit. Please wear sensible flat shoes due to uneven floor surfaces. Please note that this tour does not cover the parts of the house that are usually open to the public – this is stuff you WOULDN’T see on a normal visit to the house. Pre-booking is essential and spaces are limited. Please be sure to let us know of any dietary restrictions using the booking form. £27 per person. If you want to visit the Coach House Shop, please go before the tour begins, it will be closed when this event finishes.

Guided visits to Priory Church and medieval Stew Ponds

Find out more about the medieval history of Canons Ashby with a guided visit of the church and restored medieval stew ponds: an area not accessible to the public without a guide. There are 30 spaces on this walk to sign up on the day. An exclusive chance to see this beautiful area. This visit will only go ahead in good weather due to ground conditions on the route. total walk from the church is less than 1 mile/1.5km, but this may be muddy, boggy and uneven. Please wear sturdy footwear. You can sign up on the day for this event - please sign up at visitor reception on arrival. The spaces are first come, first served. This is not suitable for children under 8 years old. This is not suitable for dogs other than assistance dogs. This event is not going ahead on Thursday 28 May during half term. Normal admission prices apply.

Summer Foraging Walk with Tellus Mater

We will be looking for wild fruits, herbs, mushrooms, and plants that are all around us and teaching you key identification features and preferred habitats to give a good introduction to foraging for your own wild food journey going forwards. We will stop to enjoy our own packed lunches midway, along with sampling some wild food makes and bakes brought along by your host, to show how easy it can be to incorporate your finds into everyday meals and cooking. We will be covering good foraging practice, preservation techniques and what species to look out for in the coming months. You may wish to bring a camera, notepaper, something to drink as we walk and ensure you have sturdy comfortable footwear and weather appropriate clothing for the wander. £35 per person, children over 12 years old are welcome but must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Classical Recorder Music in the Church

Enjoy classical recorder music with a French theme in the Priory Church, performed by the Nene Consort. There’s no extra charge or formal ticketing: feel free to pop in and out as you wish or take a pew and enjoy the whole hour. The Nene Consort will be playing an hour of music at 2pm and again at 3.30pm. Timings are approximate for this informal performance. These musicians have been performing since 1958. They play the full range of recorders from contrabass to soprano, and their repertoire is mostly renaissance and baroque music, with some compositions by modern composers and arrangers who specialise in recorder music. Families are very welcome. The church is accessed across a public road and has a threshold step with a ramp. It is not suitable for dogs although assistance dogs are welcome. Normal admission prices apply.

Fancy some fresh air? Join us once a month from May to October to explore our surrounding countryside on a guided 6-mile walk. On the third Thursday of every month from May to October, come and explore our surrounding countryside on a 6-mile walk. Enjoy the fantastic views and get out in the fresh air with our volunteer walking guides. Please wear sturdy walking footwear and come prepared for the weather. Older children accompanied by an adult are welcome but unfortunately the walk is not suitable for children under 11, or dogs. Meet in the Canons Ashby car park ready to walk at 9.55. The walk usually ends between 12.30pm and 1pm, depending on the speed of the walkers. Please note, walks may need to be cancelled at short notice so please check the website before. If you are intending to come into the property afterwards you will need to show your membership card or pay for admission. Parking for this walk is complimentary for the duration of the walk. At all other times parking is for paying visitors or members visiting the property.
