About this event

Two thousand years after the departure of the Romans from Dolaucothi, NT Dolaucothi and Legio VIII Augusta MGV Roman Living History Society bring the distant past to boisterous life with this fascinating insight into Roman lives and times. Don’t miss a rare opportunity to see archaeology in action, as archaeologists carry out a live excavation of part of the Roman road that once led directly from the the past being carefully uncovered and learn how Roman remains are discovered, recorded and understood. A host of exciting activities and demonstrations will transport you back to the Pumsaint of 2 millennia ago. Explore the Roman settlement, sniff out what's cooking on the camp fire and examine some authentic armour up close. Catch a talk about life at the fort in the Roman era, have your name written in Roman script, visit a coin mint and a cobbler, watch a demonstration of ancient surveying methods, learn about the medical knowledge and surgical practices of the day and, of course, see plenty of military action!
