About this event

As a young girl in Afghanistan, Zahra Joya disguised herself as a boy to go to school. Under US occupation she was able to create Rukhshana Media, the country’s first news agency dedicated to the stories of women. But when the Taliban reclaimed power in 2021, decades of progress vanished overnight. Now living in exile in London, Zahra refuses to stay silent and comes to Henley with The Vanishing Girl of Kabul, her poignant memoir and rallying cry as women’s rights are stripped away across the world. Zahra will be in conversation with The Independent’s Bel Trew. This event is in partnership with The Independent
