The church of St Mary in Ottery St Mary is one of the most important mid-14th century buildings in the country. Founded by Bishop Grandisson and based on the design of Exeter Cathedral, John explores the architecture of this remarkable building, which was built by master masons Thomas of Witney and William Joy.

Over the past 25 years Brian has created a unique photographic archive and a fascinating catalogue of anecdotal stories of Britain’s working ferries. The results is an immensely varied collection of strange craft, interesting individuals and their stories, plus many unusual locations. The presentation focuses on river, estuary and inshore ferries, from rowing boats up to the Isle of Wight ferry.

The Amazing Mr Cotton by Brian Fernley

That was the name by which Ian Flemming referred to Sidney Cotton when they worked together in military intelligence during the Second World War. The story of Sidney Cotton is quite remarkable from his early days in Australia, learning to fly in the great war and hunting for seals in Newfoundland. From there he went on to spy for the secret service and develop aerial photography beyond what the RAF was capable of at the start of the second world war. In the post war period, he was involved in gun running for what he believed was a noble cause in addition to being profitable!
