Richmond Foodbank together with Trussell don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why they provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to them in crisis. They are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK. During term time the foodbank operates out of our cafe every Friday morning from 09:15-11:15. During school holidays it operates from outside of the building and foodbank volunteers will welcome and support you. https://richmond.foodbank.org.uk/about/

Term-time Café

Our cafe is delivered by our team of volunteers (Jayce, Peter, Louisa, Louise, Liz, Rosa, Chris, Jess and Ellie) on each term time morning. Drop in for a cuppa and a bacon sandwich, cheese toastie or one of our gorgeous cakes! It is a child friendly space for the whole family. We are always looking for volunteers to help in our café. No previous experience needed as we offer training. The only skill you need is to be happy to muck in! It’s a great way to boost your confidence and meet new people. Many of our volunteers have moved to paid work after volunteering with us, contact Simon Roach to find out more.

The Welcome Project Structured Learning

Our multi-cultural friendship group welcomes everyone. Learn or practise speaking English and meet people from all around the world. Class groups led by qualified tutors, supported by lots of volunteers, for every stage from beginner to advanced with accredited qualifications available. We are a social group, often cooking and eating together after the classes, talking about our families and finding out about each other’s home countries. These Thursday sessions are more structured and classroom-based lessons, broken down in to groups related to the individual’s learning level. If you are looking for less formal and more conversational sessions you should consider The Welcome Project Conversation Group on Tuesdays. THESE ARE FREE SESSIONS and open to anyone. FREE creche run by qualified child carers for babies and young children whose parents are learning with us. Contact Laila Francis for more information. If you know someone who may benefit from joining our group, please support them to make contact with us. We are always looking for volunteers for this project. You do not need to commit to every week and you will be part of a fantastic, open-minded team. The Welcome Project is delivered in partnership with Barnes Children’s Centre and Richmond & Hillcroft Adult Community College.
