Horrible Haworth: A Walk Through Filth, Disease, and Death Haworth is often remembered for its windswept moors, literary legacy, and picturesque romantic charm. But beneath that image lies something far less pleasant. This walk takes you back to a time when the village was overcrowded, unsanitary, and, at times, deadly. When waste ran through the streets, clean water was anything but, and survival was far from guaranteed. We’ll visit the sites where Haworth’s darker realities played out. This is not a ghost walk. Instead, this is a grounded, often uncomfortable look at what life in Haworth was really like, and how close the village came to being overwhelmed by its own conditions. Along the way, you’ll experience elements designed to bring that reality closer than you might expect. By the end, you may find yourself looking at Haworth… and perhaps even the ground beneath your feet…very differently.
