The countdown is on to opening night as Hull Savoyards bring Patience to the stage in a vibrant new production. Following the success of Princess Ida (Summer 2025) and the premiere of an original G&S style comic opera Dick Whittington (Winter 2025), the company returns with one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s most playful and satirical works. Rehearsals are already revealing a production brimming with love, intrigue and wit. First performed in 1881, Patience is Gilbert’s sharp satire of the aesthetic movement, poking fun at self-styled poets such as Oscar Wilde and their exaggerated devotion to beauty, lilies and languid romance. While traditionally set in a stylised vision of Victorian England, this new production reimagines the “immortal classic” within the elegance of the Regency era. Within this new setting, audiences can expect a visual and dramatic style reminiscent of Bridgerton, combining period charm with modern energy and flair. Featuring lovesick maidens, disgruntled Dragoon Guards and delightfully absurd aesthetic poets, the production promises an evening of sparkling wit and memorable music accompanied by the combined talents of the Kingston Savoy Orchestra.
