Enjoy a self-guided summer walk through the Dell at Tortworth Arboretum. Summer is a wonderful time to visit, with the arboretum in full leaf and the woodland buzzing with life. Perfect for families during the summer holidays, visitors can explore marked woodland trails, pick up child-friendly activity maps, and try our nature rubbing trails. Whether you follow a route or head off on your own adventure, there’s plenty to discover among the native, exotic and veteran trees. Since 2014, volunteers have been carefully restoring this ancient woodland, uncovering historic features, creating paths, and helping wildlife thrive while keeping the arboretum beautifully wild in places. After your walk, follow the smell of woodsmoke back to the Roundhouse for a warm drink and a rest. Get outside, explore nature, and reconnect this summer. Tickets and information Our 2026 visitor days are supported by funding from the National Lottery Awards for All Environment Grant. Tickets are now available on a sliding scale donation basis. If you are booking multiple tickets, you can mix and match tiers to suit each person’s circumstances, so a family or group can attend comfortably without anyone facing hardship. By making a donation of any amount, you support both the ongoing restoration of the arboretum and our woodland wellbeing programme, which helps people struggling with their mental health.

Open Farm Sunday at Tortworth Estate Shop

We are holding a smaller event this year to previous years. You can expect to see the farm shop open with a great BBQ and picnic supplies. There will be static displays of machinery and a few animals on show. We will be putting on tractor trailer rides to the farm and back or you may like to walk. On the farm the dairy will be open for demonstrations. We will be joined by a few local charities and clubs. We look forward to seeing you here! About this farm: Tortworth Estate Shop is a rural farm shop on the Tortworth Estate supporting lots of local producers. The Estate run Elmtree Farm producing milk from dairy cows. Guest event - Introduction to mindfulness in nature and forest bathing - June

This gentle, two-hour session offers an introduction to mindfulness in nature and forest bathing practices. You will be supported to slow down, engage your senses, and explore simple guided activities designed to help you reconnect with the natural environment. These sessions are led by experienced facilitator Lucinda, who is currently furthering her training as a student with the Forest Bathing Institute to become a qualified Forest Bathing + guide. As part of her training, she is pleased to offer these sessions free of charge. In return, Lucinda will invite participants to offer feedback to support her learning and development. As a gesture of thanks to Tortworth, donations towards the upkeep of the site are also warmly welcomed. No prior experience is necessary. Summer Season at Tortworth Aboretum

Enjoy a self-guided walk through the tranquil Dell of Tortworth Arboretum. The summer month are a luscious time to visit as the arboretum reaches full leaf. We invite you to enjoy the peace of this place, follow a map of marked trails or go off grid and create your own. This ancient woodland was once overrun by bramble and bracken, and since 2014 has been carefully restored by a dedicated team of volunteers. They have uncovered an arena and steps once used by donkeys to transport produce from the kitchen gardens to the main house, plus a stunning collection of over 600, native, exotic and veteran trees. As the ground was cleared we were rewarded with carpets of seasonal flowers, including snowdrops and bluebells. Work now focuses on replanting and maintaining the arboretum. The team have created paths and cleared around trees and plants so they can flourish and be enjoyed, and are improving labelling and signage. It’s still wild in places, and we plan to keep it that way because it’s part of what makes this place unique. Moreover, it’s also great for wildlife. Once you’ve finished your walk, or if you need a brief break just follow the enticing smell of woodsmoke back to the Roundhouse where a warm beverage awaits you. Connect with yourself, connect with your loved ones, connect with nature. Walk and Talk - Bats

Join us in September to hunt for bats on a unique guided night walk through the arboretum. This informative walk will begin in our handcrafted roundhouse as your guides offer introduction to the characteristics of the different bat species who make their home here. You will then explore the arboretum on a leisurely paced walk, armed with bat detectors so you can ‘hear’ and track any bat activity. By September bats have finished raising their young and are starting to think about mating. Many of our bat species also start travelling to swarming sites (areas where lots of bats from a wide meet up to mate) at this time of year, making it a great time to head outside in search of them! After the walk we will gather around the fire for hot beverages before departing. There are limited numbers available, so please do book early to avoid disappointment! Knowledge required: Perfect for beginners! Group size: 15 maximum. Minimum age: We think this event might be most suited for those age 10+. However you know your child best, if you think they’re able to be calm and quiet during the walk then they’re welcome to join at any age. Take your time exploring using a marked trail map, or wander freely and follow your own path. This ancient woodland was once choked by bramble, bracken and rhododendron. Since 2014 it has been carefully restored by dedicated volunteers, revealing hidden features such as an old arena and donkey steps once used to move produce from the kitchen gardens to the main house, alongside a remarkable collection of over 600 native, exotic and veteran trees. When you are ready for a rest, follow the scent of woodsmoke back to the Roundhouse for a warm drink and a welcome pause. Connect with yourself, connect with your loved ones, connect with nature. Tickets and information Our 2026 visitor days are supported in part by funding from the National Lottery Awards for All Environment Grant, allowing us to offer entry on a sliding scale donation basis.
