Helga Thoene The glow of candlelight sets the scene for an evening of Baroque treasures. Be transported with the dazzling brilliance of J.S.Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 5, the charm and invention of Telemann’s Don Quixote Suite, the virtuosity of concertos for flute and violin by Bach and Vivaldi, and the beauty of Bach’s Chaconne in Helga Thoene’s arrangement. Pre-concert talk with Steve Clarke begins at 6.45pm. Doors open at 6.15pm for the talk and at 7.15pm for the concert only. If coming to the concert only, we should be grateful if you would try to avoid arriving during the talk. Vivaldi Summer from The Four Seasons Mozart Flute Quartet in D, K285 Rutter Suite Antique Vivaldi String Concerto in A, RV 158 Bach Air on the G string Pachelbel Canon and Gigue Henleaze Concert Society’s season closes with a delightful programme of music suitable for a summer’s evening including Vivaldi’s ever-popular Summer from The Four Seasons, and the graceful elegance of Mozart’s much-loved Flute Quartet, a work full of lyrical charm, sparkling dialogue and effortless wit. John Rutter’s Suite Antique offers a playful nod to earlier musical styles, blending baroque-inspired dance movements with the composer’s unmistakable melodic warmth and colour. Written for flute, harpsichord and strings, it moves from lively to reflective with irresistible charm.
