Fossil Polishing Session Get hands-on with real fossils in our popular drop-in Fossil Polishing Session at Lyme Regis Museum. These relaxed, family-friendly activities give you the chance to polish a fossil and reveal the hidden patterns and details formed millions of years ago. Guided by our friendly team, you’ll learn how fossils are preserved and why Lyme Regis is one of the world’s most important fossil locations. No previous experience is needed and all tools and materials are provided. Each participant takes home their own polished fossil as a unique souvenir of their visit. There is a small charge for your chosen fossil. Drop in activity, Museum admission required. Date | 19th September Time| 10am – 3pm

Combine your visit to Lyme Regis Museum with an entertaining Town History Walk by one of our knowledgeable Museum Guides. Redeem your entry ticket anytime from 10am in the Museum. Meet outside the Museum for the Walk. TOWN WALK – Our Guide, Peter, has been living in Lyme Regis since 2018 after retiring from the British Army in 2017.  He was interested in the local history and has since developed his personal interest into a guided walk so that he can share Lyme’s fascinating story with others. Starting at the Museum the walk lasts for about an hour and covers a wide span of historical events from the 9th century right up to the present day.  The walk avoids most of Lyme’s challenging inclines and provides opportunities for further individual exploration and discovery. Museum Admission & Town History Walk included in ticket price. Book a Walk Here > Instructions for booking: Please select the amount of tickets you would like and click ‘Continue’. Choose a Walk date (only dates with availability will show on the calendar). Click ‘Continue’ and then ‘Select’ to add the Walk to your basket. Talk: 'Sea Monsters Past and Present' by Darren Naish

‘Sea Monsters Past and Present’ An illustrated Talk by Darren Naish 12th June, 3pm, The Pine Hall (Baptist Church), Lyme Regis Ever since ancient times, people have believed that giant, monstrous animals inhabit the seas. If such creatures are real, could they have a direct relationship to the giant sea reptiles – in particular the long-necked plesiosaurs – of the geological past? Join esteemed author and palaeozoologist Dr Darren Naish as he explores our developing ideas about sea monsters past and present, a subject that combines developments in palaeontology with studies of mythology and popular culture. Dr Darren Naish is an author and palaeozoologist affiliated with the University of Southampton. His technical studies involve dinosaurs, the flying pterosaurs and ancient sea reptiles. He has published many books, the most recent including Dinopedia, Ancient Sea Reptiles and Mesozoic Art II. Dr Naish is also chief scientific consultant for the Apple TV / BBC Studios series Prehistoric Planet. This talk is a Fossil Festival special.
