Every Saturday evening, there is a Street Pastors Patrol of Portswood High Street. The team base themselves in the back hall at Portswood Church and go out in teams from here. Who are the Street Pastors and what do they do? Street Pastors is a response of the local Christian community in Southampton to the needs of our City. There are currently 111 street pastors and 31 prayer pastors, providing support and prayer whilst street pastors are on duty. The Street Pastors offer reassurance, safety as well as practical help and support through listening, caring and helping. They meet people in the moment, taking a non-judgemental approach. Their trained volunteers run regular patrols at night-time in Southampton city centre and in the parks and in the suburbs throughout the city during the day and evening. They offer a reassuring presence that is relied upon by door staff, police, paramedics, city officials and communities. Since Street Pastors have been operating in the City and suburbs, there has been a 22% reduction in A&E admissions and reduction in violent crime during peak come from over 57 churches, giving 4-6 hours for a patrol once a month.
