Art Unpacked Exhibition: Bound to Us Date: Thursday, 16th July Time: 7:00pm - 8:00pm A reflective workshop exploring themes from our current exhibition. Have you ever walked into a gallery and wondered if you were missing something? Questioned what the artist is trying to do, or how to find your own meaning in the work? Art Unpacked offers a welcoming space to slow down, look closely and explore contemporary art together. In this session we will explore themes from Bound to Us , which explores the complex and inescapable relationships between humans and animals across cultures, belief systems, and environments. In each session, we focus on a small selection of works from the exhibition. Through guided discussion, we reflect on the themes they raise, the questions they ask and the personal responses they spark. Together, we begin to build a practical toolkit for approaching modern and contemporary art with greater confidence. Informal and conversational in style, these sessions are open to anyone curious about contemporary art. No prior knowledge is required. Sessions are facilitated by Tony Weaver, former HE Lead for Art, Design and Media at South Devon College, who brings extensive experience in arts education and has volunteered with Green Hill Arts for several years. Artist Q&A - Bound to Us

Join us for a special pre-opening event in support of Bound to Us , our upcoming exhibition exploring the complex and inescapable relationships between humans and animals. This informal Q&A offers a rare opportunity to hear directly from some of the artists featured in the exhibition including Jane Price, Ibby Lanfear and Juliette Mills. Together, they will discuss the ideas behind their creative processes, the stories and places that inform their work, and the broader themes that connect the exhibition. Expect a relaxed and reflective conversation, with time for audience questions. While our Q&A sessions are usually hosted by curator Carol Harvey, both the exhibition and this accompanying event have been guest curated by Richard and Emma Smith. Bound to Us

Bound to Us, an exhibition on show 19th June to 29th August, explores the complex and inescapable relationships between humans and animals across cultures, belief systems, and environments. Animals shape human life in countless ways: as companions, sources of food and labour, objects of entertainment, spiritual figures, and symbols of cultural identity. These roles are shaped by tradition, religion, economy, and ecology, and reflect both care and exploitation. Bound to Us considers how animals carry meaning beyond their physical presence. They may be revered as sacred beings, protected as endangered species, tolerated or vilified as pests, or consumed and controlled. These contradictions reveal how human values determine which animals are cherished, which are overlooked, and which are sacrificed. Placing beauty and discomfort side by side, the exhibition reflects on what emerges from these relationships: devotion, companionship, and conservation alongside harm, loss, and imbalance. Bound to Us invites viewers to consider responsibility, power, and the enduring bond between humans and animals — a bond that shapes both worlds and leaves neither unchanged. Featured artists: Dianne Bailey, Faith Chevannes, Jane Cope, Sarah Gillespie, Frances Gynn, Bryony Rose Jennings, Ibby Lanfear, Juliette Mills, Chloe Morter, Gladys Paulus, Jane Price, Martin Prothero, Marieke Ringel, Sophie Wake, Sarah Vigars. Green Hill Arts is open 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, Wednesday to Saturday . Entry is free.
