During this quiet day, we will look together at two of Spencer’s paintings: Christ Carrying the Cross and The Dustman (or The Lovers). Spencer lived during a turbulent period in world history, yet attuned his eye to spotting holiness within the very ordinary and domestic acts of life. Using his art as a lens through which to view our own worlds, we will reflect on how we, too, might learn to see the angels amidst the dirt. This day will include a gentle invitation to share in collective reflection on the pictures we will look at, as well as guided exploration of Spencer’s work and our own spiritual lives. There will be plenty of space for quiet time within the grounds or the Abbey. Led by Susannah Underwood. Susannah Underwood is a parish priest in St Albans Diocese. She has a particular interest in the connections between spirituality, art, and poetry. She regularly leads quiet days and retreats and enjoys writing her own poetry, as well as the privilege of accompanying others on their spiritual journeys. Quiet Day price: £46 includes lunch and coffee and tea throughout the day.Why not think about extending your time at Launde by staying overnight after the event.
