Chemical signals underpin essential insect behaviours, from mate finding and foraging to habitat selection. However, the efficacy of these signals is often mediated by the physiological state of the insect and its surrounding ecological context. Using an eco-physiological lens, this talk explores the mechanisms governing insect movement and response to chemical cues across several model species. Maya will highlight recent research from her lab, including the work of three of her PhD students on: The effect of Rhizobium on pea leaf weevil host interactions Host‑finding behaviour of pea leaf weevil Conservation biological control of pea leaf weevil Prof. Maya Evenden is a Professor at the University of Alberta, where she has been a faculty member since 2003. Her research focuses on insect chemical ecology, specifically examining intra- and inter-specific interactions across multiple trophic levels.
