James, the tenor choral scholar here at Selby Abbey, is delighted to present Let Beauty Awake, a recital of opera, art song, musical theatre, and comic song exploring the many faces of love – from youthful dreams and romance to reflection, longing, and moments of humour. Featuring music by Mozart, Rossini, Schubert, Vaughan Williams, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Gilbert and Sullivan, and others, this programme weaves together a journey of hope, passion, doubt, and wit, bringing beloved characters and stories to life. A lifelong lover of music and drama, James is passionate about conveying emotion and storytelling through song, seeking to connect with audiences through both tenderness and comedy. Having completed his music degree at the University of York, he aspires to pursue a professional career in opera, with plans for further study at master’s level at a conservatoire. We hope you can join us for this evocative and entertaining recital, promising both moving and light-hearted moments in equal measure. The Selby Abbey gift/coffee shop will be open from 10:30 until 3:30pm
