Jazz Dynamos ft. Lucy Randell

Jazz Dynamos are a 5 piece band presenting a show of re-imagined hits of the 1970s and 1980s. Fronted by world-class vocalist Lucy Randell, their set of unique original arrangements of songs by artists such as David Bowie, Madonna, Elton John, ELO, Human League, Dolly Parton, Madness, and many more, combines both great entertainment and great jazz. Over many decades, jazz musicians have often performed their own versions of popular songs, most commonly taking classics from what has become known as "The Great American Songbook" and creating interpretations based on their own particular style of jazz. What Jazz Dynamos are doing is in principle very much the same, apart from the rather different choice of song era. Rather than going back to the 1920s to 1950s, the band takes a fresh approach and looks for inspiration to the 1970s and 1980s - songs that many of the band members, and indeed audience members, are familiar with as some of the biggest hits of their formative years. Over the last ten years or so, the band's musical director and keyboard player, Mark Adelman, has developed the band's distinctive repertoire by creating unique contemporary jazz arrangements of an eclectic selection of songs that most people are very familiar with, but certainly not the way the band now plays them! Combining elements of jazz, swing, bossa, and oftentimes unexpected tempos and time signatures, these are re-imaginings that are both superbly interesting as well as hugely entertaining.
