Join Katie Davis for this hands-on, 1-day workshop designed to help you confidently use your overlocker and make the most of its capabilities. Whether you’re new to overlocking or need a refresher, this is the ideal opportunity to get to know your machine. You'll be using Katie's very own pattern, the 'Lemon Squeezy Top' - a perfect way to test your overlocking skills. It can be made with capped, short, or long sleeves, or even extended into a dress! (Though to manage expectations, a dress may not be completed in the allotted time.) In the morning you will get to know your overlocker and prepare your pattern. Learning the basics ( threading, tension settings and maintenance). Then in the afternoon you will assemble your garment, using your overlocker to sew seams and put your garment together. You'll have time to troubleshoot any issues and refine your skills with hands-on guidance. Everyone will leave with the knowledge and confidence to tackle more projects at home! This workshop is perfect for beginners and those looking to expand their skills. Spaces are limited, so book now to secure your spot, get to know your overlocker, and create something amazing!

With over 50 years of experience working with straw, Ian brings a deep knowledge of this intricate and beautiful technique, along with a passion for sharing its history and practice. Throughout the day, you will be guided through the preparation and handling of straw, learning how this humble material has been transformed into decorative surfaces for centuries. Ian will explore the historical background of straw marquetry, offering context and insight into its place within traditional decorative arts. The workshop is highly practical, with step-by-step tuition, demonstrations, and individual guidance. By the end of the day, each participant will have created a veneered bud vase, showcasing the natural colour, sheen, and pattern of straw marquetry to take home. All materials are provided, and no prior experience is necessary - just patience, care, and an interest in traditional craft. Please note: this workshop involves the use of extremely sharp blades and craft knives. For safety reasons, it is strictly 18+ only.

Decorative Straw Work for Hats

Step into the fascinating world of corn dollies, a red-listed and endangered heritage craft, in this hands-on, full-day workshop. You’ll be introduced to traditional straw plaiting techniques alongside finer decorative Swiss straw work, learning how to shape and assemble straw into beautiful ornamental designs. Throughout the day, you’ll create a selection of decorative elements, which can be attached to a straw hat or finished as a standalone ornament. The elements taught will be a ‘cat’s foot’ plait Countryman’s favour, a 4 straw ‘whip plait’ with core,  and a couple of swiss straw items. Participants are encouraged to bring along a favourite straw hat to personalise (please note: hats are not provided), and by the end of the workshop you’ll leave with a unique, handcrafted decoration - and beautifully adorned headwear ready for summer. This workshop is perfect for anyone interested in traditional crafts, heritage skills, or simply enjoying a creative and immersive day working with natural materials. You'll get plenty of attention, with a small class size and two tutors on hand to guide you.

In this experimental course you will learn the various steps to making your own bas relief flower & nature plaster cast tiles. The course will cover rolling out the clay, designing and arranging the flowers and creating your own mould for the casting process. You will be using different shaped frames to create a selection of plaques. There will be flowers and foliage for you to choose from however, bringing a very small bunch of flowers/herbs/leaves/wildflowers/grasses of your choice from your own garden, means you can make a cast specific to you. Over the course of the day you will make a range of small tiles to take home. Please note there is a £10 material charge payable on the day. A Practical Introduction to Cyanotype Print Making

Cyanotype is a photographic printing process that produces a cyan-blue print. It is literally a “dark blue impression”. Cyanotype images are made using light-sensitive chemicals to produce the permanent ‘blue print’. Join Kirstie for this fascinating workshop and learn the entire cyanotype process, from preparing chemicals to making photograms using a range of different found objects and natural forms. You’ll explore using sunlight (weather permitting!) and a UV lightbox to produce a range of prints onto paper and textile samples. After demonstrations of the process, spend the day experimenting and refining your photograms. By the end of the day you will have a good understanding of the process and a wonderful collection cyan-blue prints to take home and use in other projects such as card making, textile art or collage. Kirstie will provide all the information you'll need on where to purchase the chemicals so you can carry on this very accessible note there is a £5 materials charge payable on the day to cover the chemicals, paper, fabrics and a range of found materials and objects to use. If you have any objects you would like to try and make images with, do bring them along!

Table Loom - Table Runner or Placemats

Come and enjoy a wonderful day of weaving with Agnis Smallwood on an eight shaft table loom. Whether you’re a beginner or already a weaver, this will be a lovely opportunity to experiment with colour and texture and go home with your own bespoke table runner or placemats. Each attendee will have the use of their own eight shaft table loom for the day which will be set up and ready to go! During the course you will learn: – To use an eight shaft table loom. – To experiment with colour and texture through weaving. Participants will be given one to one support as well as watching group demonstrations. All equipment and materials are provided for use during the workshops. Please note there is a £17.50 material charge payable on the day. Please note: Some participants can find weaving all day quite a physical activity. Participants often stand to use the looms though sitting is also an option.
