Open Farm Sunday at Forest of Flowers

Join us for a guided tour for Open Farm Sunday around the Forest of Flowers in Huby, York, led by Site Manager and Founder, Alwyn Craven. Since 2016, this site's 100 acres of arable and grassland have been transformed into new woodland and wildflower meadows to provide a haven for wildlife. Much of this was achieved using an innovative process of topsoil inversion, followed by sowing wildflowers amongst the newly planted trees. The tour will showcase key areas of the new habitat, including woodland, wildflowers, 18 large ponds, and their benefit for wildlife. Alwyn will also explain how the Forest of Flowers was created, and answer questions on how you can support biodiversity with your green space, no matter the scale. The tour will include a visit to see a different kind of wildlife - our goats! They're an important part of our project and very friendly too. Please note that our walk will take us through rough and uneven terrain - we recommend sturdy/waterproof footwear such as wellies or walking boots. Tickets are limited and booking is essential. Refreshments and homemade cakes will be on offer at the end of the guided tour, with dairy free and vegan options available. Please contact us with any other dietary requirements. Please note: This is an organised tour, which begins at 2pm, not a general open day. Late arrivals will miss out, so please arrive by 1.50pm to park and find the start point. About this farm: Forest of Flowers is around 100 acres of former arable and sheep farm. In 2016/17, nearly 80 acres was rewilded, with 42,000 trees planted, all undersown with wildflowers to create a haven for wildlife. We have also created 17 ponds, 7 of which are dedicated for great crested newt habitat.
