Double Duos is a unique combination of four instrumentalists and a voice, mainly performing repertoire from the "Golden Age" of Swing Music from the 1920s to the 1950s. Two clarinets/saxophones, a horn and a double bass recapture the glamour and excitement of the periods through special arrangements written to exploit the strengths of this ensemble.

Ashtead Choral Society - Handel's Theodora

Handel - Theodora Step into the world of ancient Rome, where faith is forbidden and love defies empire. Set in Roman-occupied Antioch, Theodora tells the tale of a noble Christian woman who refuses to renounce her faith. Condemned to a brothel by the Roman governor Valens, Didymus, a Roman soldier secretly converted to Christianity, risks everything to save her. Composed in 1750, Theodora features some of Handel's most exquisite writing. The arias are tender and introspective, the choruses rich with solemn beauty. Handel himself considered it superior to Messiah, especially the chorus "He saw the lovely youth," which he ranked above the famous "Hallelujah" chorus. Though it was underappreciated in its time, Theodora is now hailed as a masterpiece of Baroque drama and musical expression. This is not just a concert — it's a journey into the soul of Handel's artistry. With its themes of courage, sacrifice, and spiritual transcendence, Theodora resonates deeply in today's world. Music @ St Martin's: Lin Xu-Zhang - piano

Australian-born pianist Lin Xu-Zhang is a striking and engaging young performer with a distinctive style and wide musical tastes. As one of around 50 performances in his current UK and international concert season, Lin brings to his recital in Epsom a characteristically eclectic programme. There is a work written just a few years ago by Stephen Hough, compositions by Chopin and Haydn and music of the 16th & 17th Century English keyboard masters Bryd and Gibbons. The concert lasts about an hour.�� Admission free – donations requested from those who can.

Rebecca Jaillot 'John Piper – School, Faith and the Artist's Eye' John Piper was both at Epsom College and a member of the congregation at St Martin's. He was richly inspired by the Curate of the day, Dr Victor Kenna, to expand his interest in modern art. Rebecca will develop on all these aspects of John Piper's life.
