About this event

The internet is an amazing resource that has brought us many good things. However it has also brought challenges for parents as we try to help our children stay safe online and stop them spending their whole childhood glued to their phones. Left to Their Own Devices is an interactive workshop created by national charity Care for the Family to help parents navigate a path through the digital jungle. It has been run in a number of primary and secondary schools in Oxford over the past few years. Parent Hub facilitators Vicky Lavy and Carrie Heyward have updated the material in 2026 to keep abreast of new research and developments. The workshop is made up of live presentation and video material, along with discussion time for parents to share their own experiences and ideas.  The workshop will be led by Vicky and Carrie and hosted by The Swan School, but parents from all schools are welcome. It has been designed with parents of children age 7-14 in mind, but much of the material will be useful for all parents. Parents on previous courses have said: 'Lots of practical advice and the sense of being part of a wider group' 'Gave me more confidence as a parent' 'I thought I would come away feeling guilty about my child being on tech, but instead I feel empowered to manage it better' Cost: £5 per ticket* with a free second ticket for partner.
