John Wesley, one of the founders of the Methodist movement, was substantially involved in the success of the local society leading in 1808 to the opening of the Wesleyan Chapel in Hospital Street. The talk considers life in the 18th century which led to creation of the movement and the history of the local chapel including the building, some of the people, some issues, the music and the congregation.
