About this event

Just ten minutes’ walk from the Royal Botanic Garden, this beautiful church was designed by Scotland’s ‘premier architect’, Robert Rowand Anderson, and opened in 1888. Unusually, the detailed planning of the interior was placed in the hands of another outstanding Scottish architect, John James Burnet, who had a family link to the church. The result was a rich work of art embracing the exceptional mural paintings and altarpiece by William Hole, Arts & Crafts stained glass by various makers, richly carved choirstalls and paving. A phased programme of conservation has begun. The story of how it all came about and its significance will be told by Dr Peter Burman MBE FSA, architectural historian and Ross Burgess, author of the Guide to St James, Goldenacre (2025). Tickets, priced from £12 to £18, from Eventbrite. Exploring Sacred Space is organised in conjunction with the National Churches Trust.
