Pyrography - Burning Designs on Wood

Pyrography is the art of decorating wood by burning designs onto the wood. Join Bob who will be able to inspire you to create your own burnt wood designs. Bob will be able to give you some background on the history of Pyrography and will demonstrate various techniques along with the correct and safe use of the tools. You will begin by starting with simple shapes, working on things such as small plaques, coasters and key fobs. As your skills develop, you will be able to tackle a more complex project. Take your pick from Bob's collection of wooden objects allowing you to work work bigger on items such as a bread or cheese board, or a bowl. During the workshop you will learn: • How to use pyrography tools • What wood is best to use for pyrography • How to design for burning on wood • How to add colour using felt pens, acrylics and colour washes if required Please note there is a £6 materials charge payable on the day which covers all the practice blanks. In addition the options available for your more ambitious project include items such as bowls and bread boards and these are individually priced between £2-£8 depending on your selection. If you are into woodturning can bring bowls or platters of your own to decorate, the best quality wood to use would be Beech or Sycamore.
