Open Farm Sunday at Orrisdale Farm

Come and meet the animals - sheep, lambs and calves. Watch the sheep shearing demonstration and watch the wool being spun into thread. New for this year is the World of Sheep where you can learn where the various breeds of sheep come from and their history. Meet the bees in the demonstration hive and spot the Queen Bee amongst her workers and learn about the important role that they play in the World from the Island's beekeeepers. See the tractors, crop machinery and climb on the big combine and the livestock wagons. Representatives from the IOM Young Farmers and the Manx National Farmers Union will be in attendance for you to find out about how to join in the rural community. Also members of the two agricultural shows will have information about the competitions and attractions at the shows. Farming and nature will be covered by FWAG and Manx Wildlife Trust members with details of the various initiatives in the Island. The children can play in the mini tractor course and there is crafting and colouring to enjoy in the craft area. There will be catering onsite and Manx produced ice cream to enjoy and also there is a picnic area where you are welcome to bring your own food to consume. Entry is free, so come along and meet the teams at Orrisdale! About this farm: Orrisdale is a mixed family farm with flocks of pedigree Texel and Charollais sheep and herds of Limousin and Aberdeen Angus cattle. We also have a self catering enterprise located in the old farm courtyard. Highlights: Cereal crops (eg. barley, wheat); Beef; Sheep; Poultry; Environmental stewardship
