Margate Textile Society meeting

Weekly meetings around the love of textile techniques, materials, styles, meanings, socio-political impact and potential for change and healing whilst honing and sharing timeless skills. No previous experience required. Bring your project or start one here! Tools, supplies, and support available. Donations of fabrics and yarn always appreciated. Drop-in £5 or £15 monthly, including refreshments [cake, teas and juice]. No one turned away for lack of funds. Free of under 18 or over 65. Ph: The first quilt is coming together! Two hundred and fifty of the about 1,000 fabric hexagons needed for this classic paper-pieced English quilt are now ready, as more hands join in to stitch it together. This beauty will be auctioned in support of the Weaving an Axis of Resilience: Manar, Daughter of Palestine initiative next September. Italian sourdough pizza with vegan and gluten-free options; bar with beers, ciders, cocktails and Italian wines; Thursday potato gnocchi & tiramisù; teas and brews, all served from 6pm. An evening to celebrate our beloved Cliftonville Soup Kitchen! What began as a simple idea has grown into something truly special. It has become a source of pride and joy, even attracting attention from journalists, artists, photographers, filmmakers, and academics. Three and a half years on and more than 12,000 meals served, founders, volunteers past and present, supporters, and friends are finally coming together to meet, celebrate, and reflect on what we’ve achieved as a community—and to explore how we can keep making it better.
