Heritage Open Days is England's largest festival of history and culture, bringing together local people, organisations, and thousands of volunteers. Every year, people come together across England to celebrate their heritage, community, and history. On Tuesday 15 September only, admission to Knole will be free for all. This includes to the showrooms, Gatehouse Tower and car park. Showrooms and Gatehouse Tower are open 11am-4pm, last entry 3.30pm. We will also be offering a free guided walk - 'The Changing Faces of Knole: An archaeology walk' - where you can discover the fascinating history of the also includes a look inside the historic icehouse from the newly installed viewing platform. The tour will run 11.30am-12.15pm and will start in Stone Court. Please pick up a tour lanyard from the Visitor Centre by 11.20am if you like to join the tour. There are 12 spaces allocated on a first come first served basis on the day. Pre-booking your free admission is recommended to guarantee entry and booking dates for Tuesday 15 September will go live from Thursday 20 August.

Chinwe’s series of portraits, '20 Historical Women who Changed the World', is a bold, colourful and historically inspired body of work which gives an insight into the lives and legacies of some remarkable women. Paired with a carefully curated selection of Knole’s own portraiture, this exhibition will create playful links between the women who inspired her and the women who shaped the powerful is also producing a special commission featuring one of Knole’s most iconic women through her unique lens. Please note: this exhibition explores sensitive historical themes, including references to the body, health and social change.

Lord Sackville's private garden open days 2026

Lord Sackville’s private garden at Knole is a beautiful space, featuring sprawling lawns, a walled garden, an untamed wilderness area and a medieval orchard. Visitors can explore the 26 acre garden and stunning views of the house on these special event days throughout the year. Tickets can be pre-booked online or purchased on the day, subject to availability. Normal admission to Knole applies in addition to a garden event ticket. National Trust members: normal admission is free; garden ticket charges apply. Non-members: if you wish to use the car park or visit other areas of Knole that require a ticket, you will also need to purchase an admission ticket to Knole. The minimum admission ticket required is an Outdoor and Tower ticket (£6 for adults and £3 for children aged 5-17).

Knole Fawns baby and toddler group

Spend time playing, being creative and making new friends at Knole Fawns baby and toddler group. Enjoy toys and games, including musical instruments and a small craft activity. Activities vary each week, but a typical session will be: 10.20am: doors open; 10.30am: start with a song and music; 10.45am-11.45am: free time for play, games, craft and books; 11.45am: wind-down time and finish with a story. Light refreshments available. Runs every Friday in school term time except the first Friday of the month. To allow as much space as possible for free play we ask that buggies and prams are left in the buggy park, which will be signposted on the day. Children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the session. The craft activities may not be suitable for under 2s but plenty of toys will be available for them to play with. This is a free event but normal admission charges to Knole apply. Please pre-book an Outdoor and Tower ticket per person (adults and children). This is free for National Trust members. Car parking is free with all admission tickets.

back to Upcoming events at Knole Skip to content Attic tours Hidden above the showrooms lie Knole's attics. Join a behind the scenes tour to explore these spaces and see a different side to Knole. Admission applies Hidden above the grandeur of the showrooms lie Knole's attics - sometimes inhabited but more often used for storage, these spaces have evolved over the centuries with each generation. These behind the scenes tours will take in the decorated ceilings, graffiti, witchmarks - also known as ritual protection marks - and artefacts found in the Retainer's Gallery, South Barracks and Upper King's Room. Conservation work has been left visible in places, laying open the bare bones of the house and exposing the craftsmanship underlying its structure. Normal admission applies. As well as a ticket for this tour, please pre-book an Outdoor and Tower ticket per person. This is free for National Trust members. Car parking is free with all admission tickets.
