Gil Kane Art Of The Comics 2001

This is a great book for all lovers of comic-book art and comic-book history. Gil Kane was simply a genius at conveying the human figure in action-packed dramatic scenarios. This book provides both a context for his work and a potted history of American comic-books post-war. But whilst the prose can be a little repetitive and stilted at times, this book is the very best archive of Gil's work I've ever seen. Kane's work is presented very clearly in chronological order, so is a valuable resource for tracing his artistic evolution. From his very earliest works in the mid-Forties, through his work on Green Lantern and The Atom for DC Comics in the late Fifties and early Sixties, to his legendary work in The Amazing Spider-Man for Marvel and beyond, this satisfyingly weighty tome presents page after glorious page of his impactful imagery. An indispensable work on the artist who ranks as one of comicdom's greatest exponents.
