In 1824, Edinburgh witnessed two events that transformed firefighting in Scotland: the appointment of James Braidwood as the city’s first Master of Engines, and the devastating Great Fire of Edinburgh that swept through the Old Town weeks later. From destruction came innovation, shaping modern firefighting methods across the country. Join us for a talk exploring the Great Fire and the legacy of James Braidwood. Presented by Dave Farries QFSM. This talk will take in person at the Museum of Scottish Fire Heritage, cost is £5 per person.
