Before 1948, home nursing was funded through a patchwork of philanthropy and subscription. Creating services in remote communities was challenging and each nurse required great skill and ingenuity. This talk will use county-wide archives and a study of one village nurse, Mary Kerr, to illustrate Westmorland’s remarkable achievement.

You are invited, by hosts Dave and Kathryn, in the name of Grange Methodist Church: they will prepare a lunch for anyone who comes, from 12 noon in the church hall on the second Tuesday in the month (but this month it's the third Tuesday!) Just come along – no need to book, and no set charge (donations welcome). Perhaps this will be particularly welcomed by those who would otherwise be on their own, or anyone who would like a bit of company and a meal prepared for them.
