This is one of the best walks in the peaks, again done as a joint walk with my group ‘Hillbillies’ the limestone formations of Chrome and Parkhouse Hills are truly amazing, it’s a 12 mile walk, taking in Solomon’s temple and the honesty shack for a late lunch, parking is honesty box £2 and off to the pub for a drink afterwards

Riber Castle & Heights of Abraham from Cromford

A very varied walk with lots of interesting features and history. Riber Castle and Willesly Castle (neither of which are actually castles) born of great rivalry between Richard Arkwright and John Smedley who were important industrialists in the 18th Century. Richard Arkwright created many mills in this area and we can see several of those on our route. John Smedley's mill is still in operation today making it the oldest factory in the world still in operation. Amazing. Great scenic walk. Dogs are welcome as long as they can be kept under control and are not constantly jumping up at people or barking. Please take LOTS of pictures and upload them to this Meetup page so everyone can see how much fun you had. Bring snacks, fluids and a lunch packup. Waterproofs would be a good idea too. Lift sharing is strongly encouraged, just leave a message below if offering or asking for a lift. Please allow plenty of time for parking and kitting up just in case and share transport if you can. We do not wait for latecomers! Since the end of the COVID lockdowns it has been apparent to anyone attending walks that another epidemic has taken hold which is members booking to come on walks and then not showing up. Occasionally people have last minute problems which prevent them attending but this doesn't explain the scale of the problem and the level of discourtesy to walk leaders and other attendees affected by it.

Three Shires 3 Peaks 30k+ Challenge Walk

Another of our fantastic 30k+ Challenge Walks for those who can. Not for those who like a gentle stroll! The three peaks in question are Shining Tor, the less frequently visited Axe Edge Moor and the lovely Shutlingsloe. Medallions and certificates are awarded to the successful participants As is usual on our Challenge Walk days we provide both printable routes and downloadable gpx tracks. We also offer complimentary use of Outdooractive 3 month trial copies for those currently without a competent mapping app on their phone and the necessary information to help you get up to speed with using this prior to the day. THERE IS NO DESIGNATED LEADER ON THESE EVENTS SO PEOPLE CAN GO AT THEIR OWN PACE ALTHOUGH EXCEPT FOR THE FEW LOONIES WHO WANT TO FELL RUN IT OUR CHALLENGE WALKS TEND TO SPLIT EARLY ON INTO A FASTER AND SLOWER GROUP OR TWO AND IT'S NOT A COMPETITION SO BE NICE AND HELP EACH OTHER! There will be also be a strategically sited water and pastry stop en route and plenty of photo opportunities. Please try and share lifts where you can as parking is limited but if we get significant numbers attending there are 3 other car parks we can use beside the meet point and shuttle people there ready for the start. Ideally arrive around 8am for registration with refreshments available and then everyone can be ready to depart between 8:15am and 8:45am so you are not all falling over each other at the first stile.

Belvoir Witches 30k+ Walk Challenge

Continuing our 30k+ Walk Challenge events, this one is not in a national park but rather special nonetheless. The Belvoir Witches Challenge Walk is a 23 mile circular route around the Vale of Belvoir (pronounced Beever!) which covers ground associated with a family of three witches. The Witches of Belvoir were three women, Joan Flower, a mother and Margaret and Philippa, her two daughters who were accused of witchcraft in England around 1618. The route which begins and ends in the village of Bottesford visits the neighbouring villages of Easthorpe and Muston to reach Grantham Canal at Muston Bridge. It follows the canal via Stenwith Bridge, Woolsthorpe Bridge, Longmoor Bridge, Casthorpe Bridge, and Denton Bridge before crossing the canal at Harlaxton Bridge and leaving it to skirt around Denton Reservoir before reaching the village of Denton. The route then continues along Sewstern Lane to the village of Woolsthorpe by Belvoir and then it passes closely on the north side of Belvoir Castle to follow the Jubilee Way through Old Park Wood and Barkestone Wood from where it continues to the village of Plungar. The Grantham Canal is then followed once more, this time to Redmile and to Bottesford Wharf and the Belvoir Road taking us through local paths back to the start. As is usual on our Challenge Walk days we provide both printable routes and downloadable gpx tracks.
